Frequently Asked Questions
Popular Package or Bespoke Booking?
Our popular packages are designed to provide your event with music entertainment suitable for every occasion. Our packages cover the needs of a wedding ceremony or drinks reception, all the way through to a night time party, enabling us to offer a complete service where you get the best value for money. Package prices are based on the maximum number of musicians you require; however, you do have the option to choose various ensembles to suit the different stages of your event. For example, you may wish to have a duo play at your ceremony, a trio at your drinks reception and a five-piece at your party. By choosing a package you are getting the entertainment you want, without having to book (and pay for) each component separately.
However, you may want a completely bespoke service for your event. For example, a bigger band, longer set times, additional sets, an early start, a late finish or additional songs to name but a few. As our name suggests, our job is to provide you with the bespoke music entertainment you need. If you would prefer a bespoke booking, please get in touch and we will be very happy to discuss your requirements.
Can I come and watch the musicians play live before I book?
Yes, we have our own music studio in the centre of Cambridge. We regularly use the studio to present intimate showcases for prospective clients. If you are interested in attending one of our showcase events please get in touch.
Can we have a meeting to discuss our needs?
Yes, we are very happy to arrange a meeting at our studio to discuss your event and musical requirements.
Do you just play weddings?
Certainly not! We provide live music for birthday parties, festive parties, charity fundraisers, corporate events, awards dinners, formal gatherings, garden parties, drinks receptions and beyond! Our musicians have played at all sorts of events including major UK music festivals, Cambridge May Balls and with international touring artists.
Do you do requests and first dances?
Of course you can request your first dance!
For further song requests that are not on our set list, there will be a charge of £40 per song. This is to cover some of the time needed for our musicians to create a suitable arrangement, learn the song and rehearse it as a band.
For non-wedding events we are happy to learn one new song for an evening package free of charge. Further song requests will be subject to the same charge of £40 per song.
Do you provide music between and before sets?
Yes, all of our evening packages include a DJ service which can be used before, between and after live sets. If you require a DJ service with your day package please discuss the options with us.
Can I choose the DJ music?
Yes, of course! You could provide a complete playlist, tell us what type of music you want to hear or specify a few choice songs.
Will the line-up be the same as the video/photos/audio?
We make a conscious effort to provide as transparent a service as possible. Unlike some other entertainment providers, with us what you see is what you get. The musicians you book will be the musicians who perform, except in unforeseen circumstances such as illness in which case another member of our team of musicians will fill the gap. You will be given as much notice as possible of such an eventuality.
What time will the musicians arrive?
Whenever you ask us to! Normally we would arrive an hour and half before the performance to load in equipment and sound check. We are happy to discuss your personal requirements should you need us to arrive earlier.
What time should the musicians start playing?
Whenever you want! Before your event we will discuss all of the package options and the best timings for your schedule.
How long does it take the musicians to set up?
This depends on the size of the ensemble you book. We have a tight and well-rehearsed set up so that our bands can sound check and be ready to play with minimal fuss.
How long will the musicians play for?
As long you want us to! Our most popular packages include the following length of set time:
• Drinks reception (1 hour evening set)
• Evening package (2 x 1 hour evening set) + DJ service
• Full Event Package (1 hour drinks reception acoustic set + 2 x 1 hour evening set + DJ Service)
To guarantee quality of performance, please note that set times must be agreed before your event, rather than on the day.
How long are the intervals?
Intervals between live sets are a minimum of 20 minutes to allow our musicians and your guests to reenergise and rehydrate before the next performance. Intervals can be extended to fit with your schedule, please discuss this option with us before the event.
We understand that events do not always run to time, if this happens on your day our musicians will do their best to accommodate you. Please note that you may be charged for additional musician hours if the event runs past 12am without prior agreement.
Will the musicians require refreshments?
Yes please. The band will need soft drinks throughout the afternoon and/or evening. Usually the client will also provide a hot/substantial meal for musicians performing in the evening.
Please let us know if this is something your event cannot accommodate.
Do the musicians need a changing area?
Yes please. Our musicians will need a private area to change, wait between sets and store their personal belongings.
Most venues will have a spare room with mirrors and electrical sockets which is perfect for the band to use.
Please note that toilets or tents are not suitable changing and storage areas!
Do the musicians provide their own PA system / Lighting equipment?
Yes, we provide all necessary sound, lighting and PA equipment. We don’t like seeing a stage full of mismatched speakers and cables, so we have crafted our setup to be compact, stylish and unobtrusive.
Do we need to hire a stage?
A stage is always a bonus, but we can perform just as well without one. Please discuss stage sizing with us before your event to make sure we can all fit!
What are the minimum power requirements?
We need a minimum of 2 separate 13 amp sockets. If you need to specify further details, please advise that our PA system and lighting use approximately 2.5kw and a single 16amp power supply is not sufficient.
Is the equipment PAT tested and insured?
Yes, all of our equipment is PAT tested and insured. We have public liability insurance worth £10,000,000.
My venue has a sound limiter, is this a problem?
Many venues are required to comply with particular restrictions with regards to sound levels. We are certainly able to perform within reasonable volume limits, and this is something we consciously rehearse.
We do require that you inform us that a sound limiter is fitted at the time of booking – please check with your venue if this is the case.
How far will you travel?
As far as you need us to! There is no charge for travel to a venue within 25 miles of our Cambridge studio. Beyond this we charge £2.50 per five miles.
How do I confirm a booking?
Once we have discussed your requirements and you are ready to book just drop us an email. We will then send you the contract and deposit details to secure your date.
